The Story of Tom Turkey On a chilly Sunday morning, in late November, a foolish turkey stands in a barnyard staring at the last of the daisies growing along the fence. The turkey inhales the warm fragrance of pumpkin pies cooling on the windowsills of the farmhouse. Inside the farmhouse the farmer-- carrying a hatchet-- walks slowly down the hallway toward the backdoor. Softly gobbling the turkey runs to greet the farmer, as he walks across the backyard. "Well, Tom," says the farmer, "it's time for you to pay for your keep." Sensing something immoral in the air, Tom Turkey attempt to flee, but his desire for freedom is cut short by the farmer's quick action. Poet's Note: ▶︎ |
