Finding Hope

I went in search of hope
But found nothing that shone a light
Nor broke the darkness
of my soul
It wasn’t there

I parted the waters
And saw nothing beneath my feet
Nothing agitated the waves
Nor smoothed the sea
It wasn’t there

I climbed the mountains
And saw nothing above my head
Nothing banished the clouds
Nor dried the rain
It wasn’t there

I rocked you to sleep
And saw nothing disturb your slumber
Nothing weighed upon you
Nor furrowed your smooth brow
And then I knew
Hope was not in me
But you
