The Skinny is an exercise in language compression invented by African American poet Truth Thomas in the Tony Medina Poetry Workshop at Howard University. The intent of the form is to create "a vivid image with as few words as possible".
The structure consists of eleven lines. The first line is repeated in the last line, possible with words rearranged. Lines 2 - 10 contain only one word. The word in line 2 is also repeated as lines 6 and 10, as described and demonstrated in the following links:
