Challenging Poetry

to the future

become aware
of roots, reaching deep into
past and family and the world,

reach through them for dreams
and heritages and histories and
the touch of other root systems--
where all people connect
and imaginings
and wishes and hopes and
and all the things that feed the soul,

let that feast
spread through every last
part to reach leaves
turning to the sun, filling
everything with light,

feel the necessity,
make a legacy,
feed the world.
