Chapter 1
Isabella ran down the hallway to her sister's room, throwing open the double doors. The floor was covered with clothes and an open suitcase by the door was partly packed. On the far corner was a large lump of blankets in which a leg was poking out. Isabella signed as she walked to the window by the bed and opened the curtains. The morning sunlight flooded the room, dancing on every piece of furniture. It was April 2nd, and the beginning of spring in Azulia.

“Wake up Liliana!” said Isabella excitedly. “The train leaves for Ryuma in an hour.”

Liliana groaned from under the pile. While she hated to be woken, she forced herself to get up and dressed. Stumbling around the room, Liliana threw more clothes into the suitcase and brought it downstairs. Today was the day they took the train from Azulia to visit their grandfather in Ryuma. They would stay there for the rest of spring and half of summer, returning to Azulia in July.

Their grandfather has owned a large plantation in Ryuma for nearly a millennium. This was their first visit to Ryuma in fifty years due to a recent war that kept the twins from visiting. The war between the northern Drow nation of Uthrak, and the northern Dwarf nation of Brudion, had finally ceased with the aid of Azulia's knights. It may be a few centuries before the Drow plan another attack on the mountains.

Azulia had it's own beauty, but the twins had lived there for almost a century. While they love every aspect of their birthplace, they felt it did not compare to the gardens of Ryuma. Azulia is a flourishing city that lies by the sea, Ryuma is more of a large village in a valley on the other side of Brudion, north of Azulia. The three nations, together, had formed an alliance over the centuries. Both Azulia and Ryuma are elven nations that treasured the lives of other races. Mages to be train in Ryuma where Azulia's technology cannot interfere; Scientists and Knights to be school and train in Azulia.

At fifteen minutes to ten, the twins climbed the stairs to Azulia Grand Station. The train was scheduled to arrive at ten in the morning and delivery them to Ryuma Station shortly after noon.

Isabella paced back and forth at platform six. Every now and then she would check her watch for the time. Liliana sat on the bench next to their bags. Watching her sister pace around made her dizzy and tired.

From a distance, one would say the twins were identical. Both stood at 5'2”, fair skinned, with long black hair that was teased with loose curls. But upon closer inspection, one would notice that Liliana's eyes were green, while Isabella's were violet. They had just turned a hundred and twenty-five years old in March, but are still considered children by society until they are married or join the military.

At two minutes til ten, the train pulled up to platform six. Attendants came up and grabbed the bags the twins had brought, as well as the bags of other passengers and began to load the luggage onto the train. Isabella motioned for Liliana to follow as she boarded the train. Their seats were located in a cabin with a dwarf family. The train would be stopping inside Brudion before leaving the mountains to Ryuma.

Liliana smiled at the small dwarf boy that sat looking at her with wide eyes. He appeared to have never seen an elf before. The father noticed his son staring at the girls and nudged him.

“Where might ye lovely ladies be heading,” asked the female. She was cradling a young infant in her lap.

“We are going to visit our grandfather in Ryuma,” Isabella responded.

“Oh Ryuma,” replied the female dwarf. Dreamily she added, “The cherry blossoms be in bloom this time of year.”

Liliana sat back and smiled, pleased to meet a dwarf that enjoyed nature. For the rest of the trip she daydreamed about the gardens in Ryuma. Nodding every now and then to the conversation her sister had with the dwarven adults.
