Thoughts destined to be washed away by the tides of life. |
| I had a big argument with someone last night about Star Trek. This person was totally disparaging Majel Barett and her contributions to the various Star Trek series she appeared in. This uneducated person seemed to believe that Majel’s only character was the love-starved nymphomaniac Lwaxana Troi. But even if one were aware of only that portrayal, judging Lwaxana like that is unfair and ignores her successful career as a Federation Ambassador. “Don’t you realize?” I asked. “She was the First Officer in the Star Trek pilot. She was there before Shatner. She was a female Number One in nineteen-freakin’-sixty-six!” I then explained how Majel Barrett was also Nurse Chapel in Star Trek TOS and the voice of the computer. I was incensed at the lack of respect this know-nothing that I was arguing with was showing for a great pioneer in science fiction television. Then I woke up, wondering why I was dreaming about Star Trek. Live Long and Prosper. |
