Fridays...Unlucky?
Prompt:
“The notion that Thirteen is a generally unlucky number has not been found earlier than 1852. Fridays, however, have been regarded as unlucky since medieval times.” – Steve Roud
Did you know that Fridays in general were considered as unlucky before reading the quote by Steve Roud? Why do you think it was considered unlucky? Which day of the week is your least favorite and why?

------------

I didn't know why Fridays were considered unlucky but I had guessed it had to have some religious zealotry behind it. So I looked it up. What ai on the browser came up with, this morning, is this:

Fridays were considered unlucky long before the 13th was attached due to deep-rooted Christian traditions, specifically as the day of Jesus’s crucifixion and a historical day of penance, alongside medieval associations with witchcraft.

About Friday the 13th, I found this on NPR:

Some speculate that Friday the 13th is unlucky because Judas was the 13th guest at the Last Supper, or that Knights Templar were condemned on a Friday the 13th.

The same source, NPR, adds this:

The first references Winick has seen saying Friday the 13th is unlucky are both from French writing and plays.
A character in the 1834 play Les Finesses des Gribouilles says "I was born on a Friday, December 13th, 1813 from which come all of my misfortunes." And in the French literary magazine Revue de Paris, Marquis de Salvo wrote about a father who killed his daughter on Friday the 13th, and said "It is always Fridays and the number thirteen that bring back luck."

Leave the superstitions and the favoritism to the French, and they'll take it to high heaven.

As to my own favoritism, I don't have a least or even a most favorite day. Except lately, I do appreciate my Sundays, only because the scam calls on the AT&T landline stop. As to my cell, it is from another carrier and they do a much better job of protecting their customers from fake or scamming calls.

Maybe when and if we get a really decent administration, they'll stop all the scam calls and other scam anything and the fake stuff that take up our time and effort as well as that of the scammers.
