Sept 14 - Animals
Prompt: Favourite Animals. "Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though. That’s the problem."
A.A. Milne. Which animals are your favourites? Write about your relationship to all animals and if there is or was a special animal in your life.

***

My favourite animal has always been the Grey Wolf, particularly the Arctic. Ever since I saw a poster of one when I was twelve, I've been obsessed. Generally, I like anything Artic - Artic foxes, Artic hares... But I also love anything remotely wolfy. It's why we got an Akita as a dog - not the most wolfy or dog, but not a huge leap either.

Fun facts about the Artic Wolf:
*Wolf2* They can cope with the extremes - as cold as -30c
*Wolf2* They are still considered the same species as the grey wolf
*Wolf2* They talk with their urine
*Wolf2* Their eye colour changes with age
*Wolf2* They aren’t afraid of humans

I always thought that the wolf was the animal I had the most affinity with. It was always what "called" to me the most. That was until I became a mother, and I realised I most closely resemble a grizzly bear. Like them, I could easily hibernate for 5-7 months every year and I'm incredible protective of my cubs.

Fun facts about grizzlies:
*BearBr* They are a subspecies of the brown bear.
*BearBr* They give birth while hibernating.
*BearBr* They can run at 30 miles (56kmp) an hour.
*BearBr* Their claws are as long as human fingers
*BearBr* They are more dangerous to humans than sharks

I always thought one of those would be my spirit animal... Maybe it was wishful thinking. However, I think my spirit animal is the crow. Like me. they have a lot of sass and judge people.

Fun facts about crows:

*Bird* They belong to the same genus as Ravens.
*Bird* When they die, their neighbours may have a funeral.
*Bird* Proportionally, their brains are bigger than ours.
*Bird* They have regional dialects.
*Bird* They can recognise your face—and hold a grudge.

Anyone that has read my blogs recently will know that we just had to put our 13-year-old Akita, Indy, to sleep. She was incredibly special to me, and to the whole family. She was part of our family. We had her from 8-weeks old. She came across to Australia when we emigrated six years ago. She was a grumpy old girl on times. Constantly huffed at me and judged me. But she was also my partner in crime in a lot of ways.
