"You told me there would be new stuff here." "There is, further in." "Well, this is exactly what we saw last time," the 10-year-old wailed. She resisted the mother's pull on her arm. "I'm not tramping miles down museum corridors to see exhibits I saw last month with Miss Vicky blabbing on. It's boring to even remember it." "Very well," her mother relented. "You sit out there in the garden on that bench and don't move. You have your snack, water and book, don't you?" "Yeah." "I'll catch up with the group and join you when we're done." Matilda went to the garden and sat on the bench. She was soon lost in the mystery novel she had borrowed from the library. Before she knew it, the tour guide was with her, telling her that her mother had called her in to watch a slide show with the group. "I know you wanted things to be different," the tour guide said. "You missed some great new exhibits, but anyway, hope you had fun with the detective story." "Yeah, I want to be a detective when I grow up," the child informed her. "Well, you'll have to learn to observe better, then." "Observe what?" "That something is different. See the bench? It's a different colour." "That's too boring for a detective!"
