Terroir

Wine experts say
they can taste terroir
the minerality, the alkalinity
of the soil.
I can feel terroir,
the tender pelts of mosses
growing in the cracks,
the rough cavity in the hollow
of a scrub oak.
There are legions
in this forest,
bundled ancestors
I feel under my feet.
I can trace my breath
along the clouds.
The Wheel of Life turns.
