I Cannot Stay Here (for Shadows/Light Poetry)
I cannot stay here
In such a maddened state
No peace, no love abides
Whatever happened to
Disagreeing without being
Disagreeable?

No one wants to listen
There's overtalking each other
Politeness has left the building
And no one seems to care

I care! I want to be the bigger person
I want to express love and peace
But it doesn't seem to matter
Not to anyone
A voice drowned out by rhetoric and contempt

Should I even try?

I cannot stay here
In such a maddened state

Perhaps one day I may try again
