A beautiful mare is spared upon a meadow of Trillium's yet; her savior becomes the prey.

The Trillium Meadow

Under the brilliance of night sky, I stood on a field of trillium's. They grew in the reflection of the moons light. I bent down within its rays to look closely at the pedals, they were soft white and silky. I could not resist to pick its forbidden flower but before I could, something off in the distant sky caught my attention. It was on the edge of the clouds, I first laid eyes upon the white winged steed as it flew closer. I watched as it was circling down through the cool crisp air. finally, it came to land upon the flowers and grassy plant life that dotted the foggy field. I stood in amazement at the beautiful animal that stood before me. I walked closer to the winged mare, she whinnied and reared. So close in fact that I could almost reach out and touch the wonderful creature.

After a few moments, I put out my hand. Closing my eyes, the mare cautiously approached. She whinnied before finally came up and placing the top of her nose on my hand, pushing upon my fingers. The grand beast gave me a sense of peace and calm…. but not for long.

Suddenly, the winged mare pulled away, I felt the air shutter as she swept back her wings. Before I could act the trees upon the edges of the field rattled with noise, the leaves ruffled and the slicing of bark from sharpened claws could be heard in the distance. A large clawed beast resembling a feline emerged from within the bows of the tree, with hunger on its mind.

It was a massive specimen with its orange and white stripes, bristling with stains of bloody battles fought and won. With a mighty roar the beast crept onto the field and waited, hidden in the long grass. The mare looked upon me with a weary eye and began to back away. The winged horse bucked and reared, behind us to my amazement lurked another beast and as I looked around I realized there was not just one but many large tigers lurking around us looking, to tie their noose. I guess I was wrong in my belief that tigers were a solitary animal.

The beautiful white steed let out a whinny and looked into the direction of an old abandoned structure which was close by. While they prowled around and grew closer, I felt an urgency to save the beautiful animal and the need to make it to that building. It would have to be done at any cost, I had to do this. I contemplated what I was going to have to do in order to save the whinged Pegasus from certain doom. It was in those few moments I realized that to save the creature, I may have to lay down my life so that it may survive.

With one final act of desperation,I picked up my courage that laid upon the ground at my feet and I tried to use it to fight off one of the tigers until the Pegasus could turn and gain enough speed to take flight. I whipped flowers in mouths and they snapped at my hands, slicing and gashing them with their teeth. I kicked sand and dirt into their eyes off of the soft dry field. Somehow i was still able to hang on to the trillium in one hand, I turned to see the winged mare leap into the air. With a smile on my face I knew that it would be free from this burden that I take as my own. The giant tiger leaped into the air and missed me with his claws as I narrowly moved out of the way. With bleeding hands and what felt like almost supernatural speed I ran towards that old stone barn with those hungry cats clawing and snarling behind me in, following the blood soaked trail.

I approached the building as fast as I could, my hand prints stained the door as I pulled the bolt open on the door, running through,I slammed it and slid the bolt shut. I slowly backed down the dimly lit hallway where moonlight shone down through holes and cracks in the structure. I was stopped when I felt the wall banging behind me, I backed into the corner and looked down the adjacent corridor. Listening, I could hear the noise of numerous paws, thumping around upon the roof, looking for a way in. It went quiet for a few moments and then all hell broke loose. It did not matter that I locked the door, those beasts smashed down that thing like it was nothing but a rotten piece of cardboard and then they all poured in, landing upon on another like a tiger flood.

I remember thinking “I’m toast!” as a deafening roar cried out among the horde of beasts. It was like the king had come and first enormous tiger I had seen emerged, stepping forward. It paced back and fourth for a moment like it was trying to form its plan of attack, like I was any match for a group of wild tigers. Finally it came right up to my face and with its warm moist nose, took a long drawn sniff. it backed away and a voice rang out inside my head and it said “Now that I have no food, you will have to do!” and then it salivated at its jowls while it stared into my eyes.

I was literally shitting my pans in fear at this point and rightfully so. As I stood in the corner like a mouse, looking up at the beast, the sensation did not last long. The giant creature turned his head down and took an aggressive stance curling its lip showing off its mouth of razor sharp teeth and before I could react, my head was parted from my body at the neck. I didn't feel any pain as my head hit the floor, I could still see and hear and I tried to take a breath. My mouth felt dry and devoid of air, the muscles still left in my face just kept opening and closing my lips.

The bloody faced tiger must have known that I could still see as he looked down at me licking his lips almost like a signal to the others that it was feeding time. I shifted my eyes and did my best to look up then the creature before he picked up my head from the ground and forced me to watch as that large group of striped beasts dragged my lifeless bleeding body away, tongue and all. It left a blood stained line while it was hanging from my torso as it was hauled away, down the hall.

They tore off my arms, the legs were next. Some of the killers took their spoils and backed off chewing on a hand or a knee. the rest dug into my torso, splattering blood upon their bodies. It ran all over the floor as i was gutted. They fought for what remained, growling, clawing and biting ensued until there was nothing left, but I had not been totally devoured until the giant tiger threw back his neck and threw my head in the air. The cat caught it in his mouth and swallowed it hole. The last thing I remember was the darkness and sensation of some slimy warm liquid, it tingled as it soaked into my scalp and finally my eyes opened.........

the end
