A VILLAGE GIRL COMES FOR TRAINING IN A BIG CITY

She came like a shooting star

she spent a little time with us

helped every one when it needed

went back to her village yesterday





when we were worried

she made every one laugh

if we were depressed and in low key

she cheered up our spirits high!



In our small office in Colombo

there are only twelve people here

one day she came early morning

for her six month training



' Where do you come from?' I asked her

' I am from a remote village

two hundred kilometers away...'

a far away thought, I noted



she started working right away

with her ever ready smiling face

helping anyone when it needed

never saying the word 'no!'





while she was here in the town

she treated every customer

with her warming smile

helping promptly, always!



time passed swiftly

then it was time for her to go

she packed her bag and baggage yesterday

bidding farewell to every one





Ushani knelt down to say good bye

in the old fashioned Sinhala way

I found a tear on my cheek

and I wiped it right away
