Quote for the week:
"Yesterday upon the stair
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today.
I wish, I wish he'd go away."

Sometimes, the most frightening image might be something you can't see at all.
An unseen foe is harder to fight, because you don't know where it is or what it is doing. You might not even know it is there at all until it is too late.
In some stories, only certain people can see a creature that is invisible to everyone else. That would make things more difficult for those who can see it, because others would think they were insane or making the whole thing up for attention.
Invisibility could come from many different sources depending on what fits in to your story. The entity might be invisible by nature or might simply be too small to see. It might come from a spell, curse, or a magical item such as the invisibility cloak in the Harry Potter novels it might be a camouflage device such as the one used by the alien hunter in "Predator." This device bent light which made the creature translucent and difficult to see. In the original movie, "The Invisible Man," a scientist discovers a drug that makes him invisible and also drives him insane.
Sometimes, you might want to keep your readers from seeing an entity even though the characters can see it. In the novel and movie "The Bird Box" everyone who sees a mysterious entity is driven to commit suicide. The readers or audience never see it except as a disturbance in the trees for those watching the movie. Instead they are shown the immediate and inexplicable reactions of characters who see it.
One strange real life situation that apparently involved an invisible entity was the case of a young girl named Clarita Villanueva in the Philippines in 1953. According to the story, Clarita was seemingly attacked in the presence of several witnesses by invisible monsters that left bite marks and slashes on her neck, back, arms, and skin. Clarita was accused of making the marks herself, but at the time, nobody was able to see how she might have done it.
Something to try: Write a horror story that includes an invisible character.
