Resolutions! Remember those?

The year is half over. Have you accomplished any of your New Year's resolutions? I try to not make any big resolutions but set small goals throughout the year. Some are they typical things, better health choices and exercise. But when it comes to writing, it is things like better grammar. And refraining from offing all my characters.

Others are small ones like doing more reviewing, connecting with fellow members, and writing helpful newsletters *Bigsmile* I'm working at creating deeper characters, even in my short stories. This is how we grow as authors. We work at improving our voice and storytelling.

On top of that, have fun! There are so many fun contests and activities on the site. Plus it is a good way to fill up your gift point piggy bank. Random Reviews awards a good chunk of gift points. Entering daily contests like "The Writer's CrampOpen in new Window. can inspire and award big prizes.

Remember your resolutions and Write On!

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (July 2, 2025)Open in new Window. question: Do you look for themes when entering or participating in a contest or activity??

Friendly Neighborhood Derg Author Icon: Not really, but I am picky about what themes I will write for.

D. Reed Whittaker Author Icon: Not so much themes as the commitment. I don't like those requiring multiple submissions - one a month. I try to write all genres and take what comes (themes). Not a fan of fantasy or horror, but I have written some good stories for those.

TheBusmanPoet Author Icon: No themes.

Jeffrey Meyer Author Icon: Nope, just whatever gets sparked in my imagination.

Hades Author Icon: Only if it's required for the activity.

Conrad Moriarty Author Icon: I like prompts, guidelines, or the mandatory use of x amount of words. I always prefer to generate my own themes; comes from my heart in that particular moment. I mean having to incorporate certain words into a writing.

Dave Author Icon: A theme is as good as any other prompt.

Thank you all for your responses! L~
