Ranjan had wandered towards a pond. He peered down to look inside. Mowgli had followed behind him.
"Ranjan, look out!" Mowgli told Ranjan, who looked as he was about to fall in. Mowgli had grabbed Ranjan by the back of his loincloth and pulled him back just before he could fall in.
"Ranjan, you've got to be more careful, you could have fallen in!" Mowgli told Ranjan.
"Sorry, Mowgli, but look!" Ranjan told Mowgli as he pointed to the fish swimming in the pond.
"Whoa! Look at all those fish!" Mowgli exclaimed as he saw the fish swim. He knew that bringing fish back to the Man-village would help feed the villagers who lived there. If he brought back a really big fish, he'd be sure to please the Village Chief and Messua. Mowgli had pulled a fishing pole out of the bag he had nearby.
"Watch, Ranjan! I'm gonna catch the biggest, baddest fish in the whole jungle! Then Mom and Dad will be really proud of me!" Mowgli told Ranjan as he got ready to cast his line.
