It is probably due to my own curiosity. I tend to click on topics that pique my interest, which are usually political, religious, controversial subjects... but I tend to stay quiet about them on WdC to avoid any arguments. Usually they're blog posts, or threads on certain forums. I read, but don't comment. Realistically, I could probably have civilized conversations with most people on WdC. It is probably more so my fear of those types of discussions, after witnessing them on platforms like Facebook and other social media sites. I should remember that, typically, people are more respectful on WdC. Though the last thread I got involved with, I ended up being pretty insulted. Granted, that was on a forum made for opinions/debating, so I shouldn't have conversed in there without being prepared to have someone strongly disagree. But I think that's why a lot of normal threads die out, too. If there's nothing to debate, compare, or elaborate on... then the conversation quickly comes to an end, for the most part. And if I see someone has posted a perspective I agree with, I tend to just like their post and move on. Really, I should be getting more involved and openly posting my agreement with them which motivates others to keep sharing. But, alas, I stay quiet a lot of the time. Out of fear, mostly, I guess. Maybe it's time to stop caring if people don't agree with me, heh. |
