Re: Re: Day 24
Maia, I can answer your questions regarding Marcus, the Centurion who sought out Jesus to save his faithful and beloved servant, Antonius. You see, I am Antonius and Marcus is my master and my friend. Many in our group have discovered my true identity, so what is the point of remaining a mystery to you? If you read my assignment on the miracles, you will learn more of Marcus the Centurion.

Marcus and his men were ordered by Herod Antipas to patrol the roads and villages surrounding his villa in Capernaum, seeking dissidents and those who would follow the Messiah. He is a good leader and well loved by his men. Like his father, Marcus has always sought truth and silently questioned the power of the Roman gods. He took me in when I was but a boy, captured from my Athens home as spoils of war. He treated me as his own, educated me, and charged me with the duties of teaching his children. My master and I spent many long nights upon the roof of his villa, talking about matters of the soul, matters that would have us crucified if discovered. When we learned of the formation of a group planning to gather information of John the Baptist and his message of a Messiah, Marcus sent me out to join this journey of adventurers. When I returned to Marcus, near death, and began calling out for Jesus, my dear master made haste to find the Worker of Miracles and humbly ask him for help. Marcus knew Jesus could save me, but felt unworthy to have this Son of the Hebrew God enter his house. So Marcus only asked that Jesus say the word, and he knew I would be healed. How did Marcus know Jesus could help me, you ask, Maia? He knew because his heart was open and receptive to the truth, allowing the enlightenment of God to enter in.
