The Poop Deck

I have so many embarrassing moments, I've blocked most of them out. But here's one I haven't buried yet.

It was when my first child, Elana Jefferson , was born. I was still in the hospital, and one of my husband's rabbis came to visit. Nice, young guy. I liked him a lot. Now what some of you need to realize is that I'm not Jewish, but that I'd agreed with Rick that our kids would be.

So the rabbi and I were talking, and I'm holding Elana, and I know there's a special ceremony when she's three months old at the synagogue when she'll get her Hebrew name. So I ask him right out: "When's her christening ceremony going to be?"

Maybe you don't get it, either. But Jewish kids do NOT have a christening ceremony, because that's what Christians do. Hence the name, you see.

He was very nice, and just said, "Well, she's not going to be christened." And then I realized what I'd said, and almost melted through the bed.
