The second of my collections of poems written for "Express It In Eight."

As usual these days, I choose blog format because it offers more space for the work.

Rhyme

Time was when I made no rhyme
Prime instead was meter
Rhyme the stuff of nursery jingles
Mime would be a better thing.

Crime it may well have been
Climb did I from my pit
Chime the bell of my repentance
I’m now a rhymer with the rest.

Rhymed first word of each line

A New Plan

Planning’s not a thing I do -
it’s not that I resent
the thought that’s needed for the brew,
I’ve enough to do in the present.

Just to talk of new and wonderful plans
is far and way beyond me,
so totally out of my hands -
I’ll drift with the wind quite fondly.

The Wind Chill Song

Wind chill
made me ill
caught a cold
and I am old.

So I snuffle
with coat all ruffled
snow’s bad enough
wind makes it rough.

Loner

Yes you’ll not know me
the quiet one who shuns the crowd
watching with haunted eyes
as the mass pursues its fancy
drunk on the emptiness of fashion
loud in camaraderie
shored up with mutual intent.

I am always the other.

On Cheese

No matter your opinion of cheese,
delight or loathing or tease,
you’ll smile whenever you say it -
it’s law and you must obey it.

This curious affliction we suffer
whether weak or even much tougher
is for convenience of the snapper
happy faces making photos more dapper.
