A blog of no uncertain musings. What goes on in my mind is often a source of wonder to me. |

My mind and my life are wonderous things ... as are yours, I'm sure. I have more slips of paper and pages of notebooks with musings and thoughts than I really know what to do with. Someone, actually several someones, have suggested I start a blog ... or a journal as a means of focusing some of this mental energy. To be honest, I don't even know what the difference between a 'journal' and 'blog' is--or if there even is a difference. Read on, my friends, and you can judge for yourself whether it even matters. And so.... "Another Me" I'm JACE. Yep ... that's me! And somewhere in all my writings my last name may be posted. But I'll just leave it at Jace for right now. I'm 70 years old and heading full tilt to 71. It's strange that while I'm going through some rather serious medical issues, I still consider myself to be in the prime of my life--pretty good shape physically AND mentally, though I don't run for competition anymore Guess you just have to be patient until such stuff leaks out. Well, one can hope.... |
| Are you looking for something to watch over the coming weekend? I suggest the Netflix four episode, mini-series Death By Lightning. This is the story about President James Garfield, who ascended to the Presidency in 1881 without having any desire for that post. Indeed, after receiving the Republican nomination on the 36th ballot to run for President, he refused to even campaign. The mini-series was based on the 2011 book Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard. I read this book several years ago and found it fascinating. Both the book and series treat Garfield's rise to the top of his party, his fight against the rampant corruption in politics at the time, and the steps that led his assassin, Charles Guiteau, to decide to assassinate President Garfield. For example, President Garfield would have survived being shot and recovered fully had it not been for arrogant doctors who repeatedly over several months probed the wound with unsanitary fingers and instruments searching for the bullet. This fact was determined at autopsy. I highly recommend both reading Millard's book and watching the mini-series--the latter is easily done in an afternoon. You won't be sorry. |
| I finally have all my five Achievement MBs on the same schedule. All five mature on the same day. One wouldn't think that would be a hard fact to realize, but for some reason, I've not been able to achieve it ... until now. So today, after completing each individual achievement, and verifying And I've started updating my stories to reflect a larger font size. Long road ahead .... |
| November 1. It's a new month. Halloween is over and you can start putting up Christmas decorations. You know you want to. I don't subscribe to that--I prefer to wait until after Thanksgiving. In the meantime, I have other goals for November. Reviewing: My goal is 60 reviews this month (average two per day) while maintaining my daily Review Achievement for the entire month. My reviewing took a serious hit last month. I'd like to blame it on my two-week vacation. But, honestly I guess I needed a break. I did manage to reach 12 reviews to satisfy my goal for "SuperTower Review Room MB Rewards" Writing: My goal is to enter four contests this month, including the official WDC contest I haven't written anything of substance in quite some time. Lord knows I have enough ideas on scraps of paper strewn all over my office. I didn't join NaNo as I'm not a novelist. But I can still write. Blogging: My goal is 15 entries over the month. Writing them should be doable. Now all I have to do is make them relevant. Editing: My goal is to organize, edit and update all the individual stories in my "SYBARITIC INTENTIONS: Folders" There are quite a few stories there. My hope was to hit a different folder of my writings each month until I'm caught up. With my first three goals, this last might be a bridge too far. (Always liked that movie.) Of course, I still have my regular duties. Hmm, it's hard to call them duties when I enjoy doing them. They include my monthly Noticing Newbies newsletter and keeping up with the Help forums and the Newsfeed. Guess I'll see. |
