Why does it take a tragedy for action to happen?
I was watching the world news tonight and they said by 2050 one in three people will have diabetes. Lots of people have diabetes right now, my husband for one. He has been diabetic since he was 30...that's 37 years. It's only recently the tv has been bombarded with diabetic tools and supplies and recipes and you name it. I just think they, whoever they are, may have waited a little too long. It's like the dangerous curve in the road or the dangerous intersection, somebody has to die in an accident before a red light is installed. I feel like a lot of people have been suffering in a vacuum for a lot of years and now that an epidemic is expected, something must be done. Where was the diabetic counseling 30 years ago? Isn't one person as important as 100?
I'm not saying it's not great that warning signals are going up now. I'm saying people wait too long to take action, myself included. I get too sedate about things, wait until the molehill becomes a mountain. That is what's happening with diabetes. If you don't have it, believe me, you don't want it. Those extra pounds are a warning. They can turn into a lot worse than just being overweight. My Jim is legally blind, although he can see to get around. He can't drive. He can't read without a magnifier or do thousands of other things you need good vision for and don't even think about until you can't see. He tests 3 times a day, takes a long lasting insulin shot daily plus quick acting if he tests high. So please, if you are reading this, it's true, we must maintain a healthy weight and exercise daily to try to avoid diabetes. Sorry, I didn't mean to preach....c
